TOWN OF
SPECIAL TOWN
MEETING
August 29, 2006
The August 29, 2006 Special Town Meeting was called
to order by Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman at 7:40PM, at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship
Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including: Supervisors Butch Eggen, Jim Janssen and
Jerry Pohlman, Treasurer Terrie Hoff, Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman, reporters from the
Voyageur Sentinel and the Timberjay, and 40 members of the community.

Jo Ann explained the purpose of the Special Town Meeting as being to authorize
the Town Board to purchase land.

Jo Ann asked for nominations for a Moderator.
Nancy Parvi made a motion to nominated Jeff Sanborn, with a second by Ruth
L. Carlson. Jo Ann asked for any other
nominations three times. There being no
other nominations, the nominations were closed.
Jo Ann turned the meeting over to Moderator Jeff Sanborn.
Moderator
Jeff read the Agenda and explained that voting would be done by show of hands.
He reminded everyone that all could participate; only registered voters of
BUSINESS
There
were to be comments on the Land Exchange by Gary Cerkvenik of The Costin Group,
but he was unable to attend the meeting.
Jeff asked Ruth L. Carlson to speak.
Ruth reviewed the main points of the Land Exchange process and asked for
questions from the floor.
Questions
referred to the location of the land, the value, the need for 80 acres, the
Fire Hall land ownership, the debt amount, the development of the land and when
that may happen, the topography of the land, increased taxes, affordability,
access to hiking trails across private land, the realization of the goals of
the people as a result of the Community Action Plan, and the progress and
growth of the Town.
A
motion was made by Larry Olson, supported by Bob Bowers, to vote by paper
ballot. The community members present
agreed and the motion carried. Jeff
appointed Election Judges Shirley Sanborn and Joan Olson to count the ballots.
A
motion was made by Ruth L. Carlson, supported by Dave Adams to authorize the
Town Board to obtain certain real property for the purposes of locating a
future town hall, park, green space, and potential development. The registered voters of
The
meeting was adjourned at 8:20PM.
