TOWN OF
SPECIAL BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS’ MEETING
The August 18, 2006 Special Board of Supervisors’
Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 7:30PM at the Crane
Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in
attendance including: Supervisors Butch
Eggen, Jim Janssen, and Jerry Pohlman, Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman, Treasurer Terrie
Hoff, a reporter from the Voyageur Sentinel and 3 members of the
community.
BUSINESS
Chairman Jerry explained that the purpose of the
meeting was to declare that the interests of the Town required a special town
meeting to be held regarding the land exchange and asked that Ruth L. Carlson
explain further.
Ruth thanked the Board of Supervisors for this Special
Board meeting to vote on a statement which will give the electors a vote on the
purchase of land for the land exchange.
The process of the land exchange which includes the financing is a long
slow process. We are trying to work
through the maze of legal technicalities.
Announcement of the Special Town Meeting, having been set at the last
meeting, will be published in the paper as recommended by legal advice. The Purchase Agreement, after having been
fine tuned by the lawyers, was received this afternoon. It is an unsigned document but will give a
financial picture of the land purchase project.
It is not required by law to publish the document; however, the Board
may wish to publish as well as post. The
next step for the Town Board of Supervisors will be to decide on the manner in
which the financing will be arranged.
The decision for the Supervisors will be to choose from one of the
following types of financing; establish a Certificate of Indebtedness, a Bond
Issue, or a Lease Purchase Agreement.
This decision will not be required until after the August 29th
meeting.
The Board and those present discussed the
issue. Ruth volunteered to assist the
Clerk in writing an informational piece for posting and possible publishing to
better explain the issue for the public.
A motion was made by Jim, supported by Butch, to
approve the Statement of the Town Board calling for a Special Town Meeting to
seek electoral authorization to acquire certain real property for the purpose
of locating a future town hall, park, green space and for potential development
purposes on August 29, 2006 at 7:30 PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship
Hall. Jim, Butch, and Jerry voted in
favor and the motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at
7:45PM
