The May 28, 2008 Special Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 2:15PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including: Supervisors Butch Eggen and Jerry Pohlman, Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman, Treasurer Terrie Hoff, and 1 member of the community. Supervisor Jim Janssen arrived at 2:25PM.

BUSINESS

Chairman Jerry explained that the purpose of the meeting was to write a letter to the County Board of Commissioners on behalf of the East Bay residents regarding taxation of their leased properties.

Jerry read the article in the Timberjay dated 5/24/08 stating that holders of public recreational leases in St. Louis County could breathe a little easier in the wake of this year’s legislative session where according to Rep. David Dill the tax bill passed at the end of session included a provision that allows the county board to exempt the land value of lake cabin and hunting shack leases from the local property tax. A telephone conversation with Dan Christianson, St. Louis County Assessor’s office revealed that they had not received this information and that they must proceed with taxation of the leasehold land.

A motion was made by Butch, supported by Jim to write a letter to the St. Louis County Board of Commissioners with a copy to Dave Sipola, St. Louis County Assessor’s Office in support of the Crane Lake Township leasehold property owners’ appeal to the County to favorably re-evaluate the assessment of leasehold properties. Butch, Jim, and Jerry voted in favor and the motion carried.

The Board composed the letter.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:40PM
