TOWN OF CRANE LAKE

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS’ MEETING

September 11, 2007

 

The September 11, 2007 Board of Supervisors’ Meeting was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 7:35PM at the Crane Lake Fire Hall with those in attendance including:  Supervisors Jim Janssen and Jerry Pohlman, Treasurer Terrie Hoff, Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman, a reporter from the Voyageur Sentinel and 2 members of the community.  Supervisor Butch Eggen was absent.

 

Additions to the Agenda:  Propane Tank Discussion was added to New Business

 

Minutes – A motion was made by Jim, supported by Jerry, to approve the minutes of the 8/7/07 Supervisors’ Meeting.  Jim and Jerry voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report – Terrie read the August Cash Balances and presented the bills as follows:  Jeff Sanborn – $50.00; Robert Scott – $198.45; CLVTB – $18,030.93 and Payroll – $507.18.   A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to approve the Treasurer’s Report as read and the payment of bills.  Jerry and Jim voted in favor and the motion carried.

 

The Clerk presented the correspondence.  The correspondence was received as read and will be placed on file and acted upon as required.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Land Exchange/Community Property Project – Ruth L. Carlson reported that the purchase agreement was received from Allete for the Township land purchase. Mary Frances Skala and Melissa Maloney, both of Fryberger, et al, have reviewed the agreement.  Ruth asked the Board to retain the services of either Mary Frances Skala or Melissa Maloney to meet with Allete and for Ruth or Jo Ann to work with them on the purchase agreement.  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to retain Mary Frances Skala or Melissa Maloney with Ruth as the liaison to meet with Allete concerning the purchase agreement.  Jerry and Jim voted in favor and the motion carried. Ruth mentioned that to date all work on the Township land exchange by the Fryberger firm has been pro bono.

 

Community Action Plan Update Committee Report:  There was no report.

 

Culvert:  Phone calls have been made to both Chris Morris and his department for information on when the construction will start and the possibility of the Township receiving a blue print of the plans.  No response has been received.  Jim will try to contact Chris Morris.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Rainy Lake Board of Control Report – Rob Scott.  Rob provided a report to the Board, which Jo Ann read aloud.  The annual joint public meeting was held on August 21st at the Rainy River Community College in International Falls. Highlights of the report included the four issues directly related to the Township, which are:  Maintaining the current IJC water level operating bands.  Continue monitoring the Crane Lake water gradient issue.  Keeping the water level on the high side of the curve at and after ice out.  Namakan River dam project.  Rob suggested that the Township develop a position on the Namakan River project and correspond with our Congressional representatives about the project.  He volunteered to draft a letter for the Board.  The Board decided to talk to members of the community to receive their thoughts on the project prior to sending letters to Congressional representatives.  Board members will also look into available information on the project.  Anyone wishing to express an opinion on the Namakan River project should mail that information to the Clerk at Town of Crane Lake, P.O. Propane Tank:  Jim has been approached by some members of the community with the idea of the Township purchasing a propane tank and truck and hiring a driver to supply propane to the Township businesses and residents with the anticipation of cost savings.  The Board discussed the option.  Jim volunteered to research the feasibility of the concept.

 

Other New Business:  There was none.

 

Town of Crane Lake Meeting Minutes – September 11, 2007

Comments from Officers:  Jerry thanked Jim for volunteering to research the propane concept.  Jim commented that he would not be able to attend the next meeting.

 

PUBLIC COMMENTS – There were none.
