October 10, 2006: Hearing Minutes
TOWN OF CRANE LAKE
ALL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN PUBLIC HEARING
October 10, 2006
The October 10, 2006 All Hazard Mitigation Plan Public Hearing was called to order by Chairman Jerry Pohlman at 7:30PM at the Crane Lake Chapel Fellowship Hall with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by those in attendance including: Supervisors Butch Eggen and Jerry Pohlman, Clerk Jo Ann Pohlman, Treasurer Terrie Hoff, a reporter from the Voyageur Sentinel and 10 members of the community. Supervisor Jim Janssen was absent.
Chairman Jerry explained that the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission and St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department coordinated the St. Louis County All Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was approved by FEMA/HSEM on March 1, 2005 and adopted by the St. Louis County board on May 26, 2005. It is necessary for the Township to adopt the St. Louis County Plan by resolution in order to be eligible for FEMA/HSEM hazard mitigation funding.
He further explained that the Town Board of Supervisors’ at their April 12, 2005 meeting voted by motion to approve the following two goals as applicable to our community:
Goal 2.1 – Ensure the maintenance of a transportation infrastructure resilient to flooding events. A strategy that we feel is being implemented in this direction is our Town’s representation by a community member to the International Rainy Lake Board of Control.
Goal 4.1 – Reduce the risk of wildfire damaging property and causing injury or death. A strategy that we feel is being implemented in this direction is that the Crane Lake Volunteer Fire Department, which the Town has contracted with for fire protection, has expanded efforts to educate area residents through the FireWise Program.
Jerry than asked for comments from the community members present.
Ruth L. Carlson congratulated the Board on completion of their work on this project.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:35PM
Jo Ann Pohlman, Clerk Jerry Pohlman, Chairman
