OLD BUSINESS

Assessment Service:  Township Assessor Jan Jackson spoke to the Board about the letter sent to the Board by St. Louis County on October 4th stating that the County Board of Commissioners had acted to eliminate assessment fees for cities and townships using County Assessor services beginning January 1, 2014.  The Board discussed the option of free service from the County, understanding that the County must pay their assessors and collect the money from somewhere.  Monies for assessment services at the County are understood to come from the General Budget. The Board feels that the Township would be losing their input on property taxes for constituents within the Township, if the Township opts for County assessment work.

Land Exchange/Community Property Project:  There was no report.

Jacque Eggen Memorial Fund:  There was no update.

Crane Lake Road Repair:  There was no report.

Fireworks Payment:  A motion was made by Jim, supported by Jerry, to accept Premier Pyrotechnics early pay option for 2014 fireworks; adding 15% additional product to the show. All voted in favor and the motion carried.

Duluth Post Office Closure:  In a letter to the editor in the Timberjay, Area Postal Workers of Cook, Togo, Angora, and Britt have requested that citizens and community leaders voice their opposition to the possible closing of the Duluth distribution facility.  A motion was made by Jerry, supported by Jim, to send letters opposing the closing of the Duluth distribution facility to Senator Amy Klobuchar, Senator Al Franken, Rep. Richard Nolan and State Rep. David Dill and State Senator Tom Bakk.  All voted in favor and the motion carried.
